If one were to call Fool a jester, it would be a somber one. Instead of the usual motley, the Fool leans towards darker colors in his attire. He wears a one-piece purple suit trimmed in gold at the cuffs. Over this is a black vest held closed with gold cord, and on top of this is a maroon shoulder-guard draped with gold tassels. Covering half of Fool's face is a white mask with a red diamond in the center.

Personality: Fool is, whether he likes it or not, essentially a sidekick. He exists to mentor those who are chosen by the stage. He wants those chosen to succeed, and works to help them in small ways by giving advice and reading the future. Fool, as a mentor, is very even-tempered, keeping an almost regal mien. In fact, Fool seems almost the sort to be the straight man rather than the jester.

However, this doesn't mean that Fool is without his playful side. In fact, Fool is quite a bit of a pervert. He tries to make use of the fact that most people can't see him to get glimpses of the girls at the Kaleido Stage in various stages of undress. Luckily for the girls (and unluckily for Fool), Fool's latest charge, Sora, does everything she can to prevent this from happening – up to and including tying Fool up, which he seems to take with decent enough humor as he cajoles her into setting him loose.

Also, it seems that Fool is a bit lonely. It's rare for anyone to be able to see him, and if they lose confidence in themselves, they're likely to lose the ability to see him. So for much of his existence, Fool has been on the outside, looking in. Whenever he suspects that someone can see him, he is always quick to introduce himself.

Abilities/Strengths: Fool's small size leaves him capable of fitting into places that most can't. Being a spirit, he's not bound by the laws of gravity, thus can often be found floating. He uses both tarot and astrology-based magic to get glimpses of the future. Fool can also count near-invisibility as an asset. Those who are destined for greatness and those with some psychic ability and/or a penchant for seeing ghosts are the only ones who can see him.

Weaknesses: Fool's greatest asset is probably also his greatest weakness. Simply put, not everyone can see him. This works great when spying, but is much more problematic when trying to find someone to convey information to. Also, while Fool is a spirit, he does not have a spirit's lack of substance. Doors, drawers, and vacuum cleaners all present obstacles for him. He can be grabbed, manhandled, tied up, and chewed on by seals. Physical strength is also not one of Fool's assets.

Notable Possessions: Fool has a tarot deck which he can summon. This is, of course, used to get glimpses of the future. Knowing what the future holds means that it is possible to change it, though Fool rarely takes an active role in this. Fool also conjures up a crystal ball with which to do astrology readings.

History: Once upon a time, there was a fool in love with a princess, and she loved him as well. However, the fool could not be with the princess and thus had to content himself with making her smile. The fool was always glad to entertain his princess and even include her in dazzling acrobatic maneuvers. Together, they performed the legendary great maneuver and the Angel's Maneuver.

However, not everyone wanted the fool and the princess to live happily ever after. One snowy day a prince who also loved the princess happened upon the fool and the princess while they were practicing one of their maneuvers. In a fit of jealousy, the prince drew his sword and charged.

Thus ended the tale of the princess who never smiled and her fool.

But while the fool's life may have ended, his existence did not. He sealed the sad memories of his life into his mask and became Fool, the spirit of the stage. Only those chosen by the stage as destined to do great things could see the spirit, and Fool spent his afterlife guiding these people and looking for someone who could perform the legendary great maneuver.

Enter Sora Naegino.  This young lady came to the Kaleido Stage to fulfill her dreams of becoming a performer. Due to a stroke of bad luck, she arrived late and missed the auditions. An injury before a performance (accidentally caused by Sora), however, gave her the chance to show what she could do.

From the start, she was able to see Fool, at first thinking him to be a creepy doll. And thus began Sora and Fool's odd partnership.  Fool helped to provide direction for Sora, and Sora trained hard to become the Kaleido stages next great star (while thwarting Fool in his many attempts to peek at the stage's performers in various stages of undress).
